Hardcore bands live and die by their frontpersons, and L.A.'s Youth Brigade—active since the early ’80s—boasts a serious talent in Shawn Stern, whose strange, sarcastic croon seems to look both backward to Jonathan Richman and forward to Rancid's Tim Armstrong. Tonight, before the band's gig, there will be a screening of the documentary Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records, which should bring you up to speed.
