A Halloween costume is optional at Someday Bar this October, but you may feel underdressed if you show up without at least a little eyeliner. Black Lagoon, the traveling cocktail pop-up, is taking over the Brooklyn bar from October 1 through November 1 with spooky drinks and enough eerie décor.
The transformation will bring cinematic lighting, unsettling sounds and Halloween decorations to Someday Bar on Atlantic Avenue. The Brooklyn stop is one of 34 Black Lagoon takeovers planned across North America this season.
Bartenders Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage created Black Lagoon, which began as a one-night pop-up in Toronto. This year’s menu gives classic cocktail cravings a macabre twist: Abyssa’s Obsession is a pumpkin-infused rum drink with sherry, coconut, pineapple and lime, while Bone Temple heads in a margarita direction, combining tequila, tart cherry, spiced oat orgeat, lime, vanilla honey and a touch of absinthe.
If coffee is the only thing keeping you among the living, there’s also Moon Shadow, an espresso martini variation with nutmeg-infused vodka, coffee liqueur, banana liqueur, sherry and cold brew. (The organizers say nonalcoholic drinks will be available, too.)
“Every year, we look for new ways to expand the world of Black Lagoon and create a spooky attraction that goes beyond a traditional Halloween pop-up,” said Hayes and Ramage. “Black Lagoon has always been a place where Halloween fans, cocktail enthusiasts and everyone in between can come together, and we’re excited to continue building that world through new venues, new creations and unexpected surprises this season.”
Black Lagoon’s collectible glassware will be available to buy, including a new octopus-witch mug called Abyssa. The pop-up lasts through the day after Halloween, giving you a final chance to celebrate if October 31 gets away from you. Come for a cocktail, stay for the creepy atmosphere.
