If you’ve ever been interested in taking an overnight trip on an Amtrak train, now’s a great time to reserve some tickets—as long as you’re in a relationship or have a very close friend. (Or a friend that you're looking to get a little closer to.)

The nationwide rail service is currently offering a deal where you can buy one ticket and get one free if you share a bedroom or a roomette. Plus, with the exception of the Silver Star line, meals are included in the price of your ticket. There’s also that added benefit of getting to watch the country roll by from a private room as opposed to an aisle.

The deal on sleeper cabins lasts from now through October 14. In order to take advantage of the deal, you’ll need to ride between November 11 and April 8. Also, just a heads up that, there are a few blackout dates for the half-off tix: November 21–December 3, December 21–23, and December 27–January 3. So unfortunately you probably won’t be able to take advantage of the lower prices to head home for the holidays.

For more information, and applicable routes from Penn Station, head over to Amtrak’s official website. (Just prepare yourself for the unavoidable Penn Station Scramble before you go.) For a quick idea of the rates that are on the table, the sample fare for two passengers sharing a roomette from New Orleans to New York would be $417. Just be sure to use the code "V500" upon checkout.
