Some casting announcements simply make sense. Others arrive and immediately make you wonder why nobody thought of this sooner: Ayo Edebiri is playing Snoopy.
The Emmy-winning The Bear star will don the metaphorical dog ears for New York City Center’s upcoming Encores! revival of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, running February 3 through February 14, 2027. And somehow, Snoopy isn’t even the only piece of wildly good casting here: David Hyde Pierce will play Charlie Brown, Danielle Brooks is Lucy and Jin Ha is Linus.
Based on Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts comic strip, the musical features music, lyrics and a book by Clark Gesner, following Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the gang through their pint-sized existential crises. The Encores! production will be directed by Sam Pinkleton, with choreography by Sunny Min-Sook Hitt and music direction by Meghann Zervoulis Bate.
Fans have been pairing the actor and cartoon beagle in fan art for years and Edebiri herself has previously acknowledged the spiritual connection. “I have Snoopy energy,” she said while promoting the 2025 film Opus. Now she gets to prove it onstage.
The role also gives Edebiri another reason to stick around the New York theater scene. She made her Broadway debut earlier this year in the revival of Proof, opposite Ha. She is best known for playing Sydney Adamu on The Bear, which earned her an Emmy, and her film credits include Bottoms, Inside Out 2 and After the Hunt.
Pierce, a four-time Emmy winner for Frasier, won a Tony for Curtains and most recently appeared on Broadway in Pirates! The Penzance Musical. Brooks earned a Tony nomination for The Color Purple and an Oscar nomination for the musical’s 2023 film adaptation, while Ha’s Broadway credits include Hamilton and M. Butterfly.
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown kicks off the 2027 Encores! series at New York City Center, and the limited run wraps on Valentine’s Day. Nothing says romance quite like Charlie Brown, a blanket-toting philosopher and an Emmy winner pretending to be a beagle.
