Katz’s Deli and Kith Treats are back together. (Apparently, their first collaboration did not exhaust the possibilities of dessert with a pickle on top.)
Beginning on Saturday, September 26, Kith Treats will serve three new Katz’s-inspired specials at its SoHo store, as well as locations in Chicago and Miami. This time, the menu includes a returning latke sundae, a Reuben-flavored ice cream creation and a dessert that comes with an egg cream. The most familiar option is the Latke Swirl, which appeared in last year’s collaboration. It folds sour cream and onion chips, applesauce and Corn Flakes into vanilla ice cream, then adds apple jam, Maldon salt and a miniature Katz’s latke.
The Katz’s Reuben 1 ventures further into savory territory. Kith Treats blends vanilla ice cream with Cheez-Its, rye croutons, beetroot powder, and liquid smoke, then tops it with black sanding sugar, a dehydrated Swiss cheese chip, Maldon salt and half a Katz’s brine pickle. There’s no corned beef in the ingredient list, but the cheese, rye and pickle make the sandwich reference clear.
For anyone who would prefer to keep lunch and dessert in separate food groups, there’s the Black & White Egg Cream. Vanilla ice cream gets black-and-white cookie pieces and Rice Krispies, then comes with an egg cream made from U-Bet chocolate syrup, whole milk and seltzer. Another black-and-white cookie sits on top. This one sounds considerably less likely to start an argument at the table.
Last September, the two New York brands introduced the Dilluxe, a vanilla swirl with pastrami-seasoned rye croutons, mustard seeds and Katz’s pickles, alongside the original latke special. The new lineup keeps the willingness to put deli-counter ingredients into a soft-serve machine, while giving the dessert-skeptical a cookie-and-chocolate escape route.
There's clothing too: an accompanying Kith Treats x Katz’s capsule collection goes on sale at Kith’s U.S. stores and online September 26, then arrives at Katz’s Deli on October 10, while supplies last.
