Move over, Las Vegas. America's so-called Sin City has officially been dethroned—and the new champion won't surprise anyone who's ever tried to find a quiet Friday night in New York.

A new study commissioned by PokerTube ranked more than 200 U.S. cities based on a mix of nightlife, adult entertainment, dating demographics and public health data, ultimately crowning New York City the most "sinful" city in America for 2026.

The ranking combined factors including the number of bars, nightclubs, casinos and adult stores, along with the percentage of single residents, excessive drinking rates and sexually transmitted infection data. While Las Vegas has long built an entire tourism industry around excess, researchers found that New Yorkers may be living the lifestyle more enthusiastically than anyone else.

According to the study, New York earned a composite "sin score" of 8.85 out of 10, narrowly edging out Phoenix (8.77) and Miami (8.75). The city's biggest advantage is pure scale; New York has 3,822 bars and 422 nightclubs—the highest totals of any city in the ranking—as well as 79 adult stores. Researchers also noted that nearly half of New Yorkers are single, with 46.83% of men and 44.03% of women reporting unmarried status.

Perhaps the most surprising finding wasn't who came in first—it was who didn't.

Las Vegas landed in seventh place overall, behind New York, Phoenix, Miami, Houston, Dallas and New Orleans. Despite leading the nation in casinos, with 292 counted in the study, Vegas scored lower on several other metrics. Researchers argued that while Las Vegas is built for visitors looking to indulge, the ranking was designed to measure residents' habits and demographics. Chicago claimed the eighth spot, while Baltimore and Portland rounded out the top 10.

Of course, whether being named America's most sinful city is a badge of honor or a reason for concern probably depends on your perspective. But if the ranking is measuring nightlife options, social opportunities and a city that never seems particularly interested in going to bed, New York's victory feels almost inevitable.

After all, if there's one thing New Yorkers hate, it's finishing first and then acting modest about it.
