The Upper West Side is about to become significantly more dangerous for anyone trying to casually “just grab a coffee.”
Radio Bakery, the wildly popular Brooklyn pastry shop responsible for some of New York’s longest food-related lines, is officially opening its first Manhattan location in 2027 at 463 Columbus Avenue between West 82nd and 83rd Streets.
A representative for the bakery confirmed the expansion to Time Out this week. It will be Radio’s third overall location, after its original Greenpoint shop and a Prospect Heights outpost that opened earlier this year, with lines reportedly stretching well over an hour.
“Next year, Radio Bakery officially enters Manhattan with its highly anticipated new shop on the Upper West Side,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The beloved Brooklyn bakery, led by co-owner and chef Kelly Mencin alongside the team behind Rolo’s and Hellbender, will bring its signature seasonal pastries, sandwiches and breads to a new audience.”
If you somehow haven’t yet fallen into the Radio Bakery vortex, the hype is very real. Since opening in Greenpoint in 2023, the bakery has become one of the city’s most obsessively discussed food spots, drawing daily crowds for laminated pastries, focaccia sandwiches and savory creations that feel a little more restaurant-brained than typical bakery fare.
The croissants are the celebrities here: triple chocolate, pistachio, rhubarb and custard and chocolate PB&J. But longtime fans know the savory side is where things get especially unhinged in the best way possible: there’s a cheesy pretzel bear claw, rotating focaccia slices topped with things like sausage and fennel or shakshuka and sandwiches layered onto house-made bread that are routinely sold out by mid-afternoon.
The bakery’s reputation has exploded fast. In 2024, the New York Times named Radio one of the best bakeries in the United States and co-owner and pastry chef Kelly Mencin (whose résumé includes Bouchon, Gramercy Tavern and Rolo’s) was named a StarChefs Rising Star Chef in 2025.
The new shop will take over the former Park West Pharmacy storefront on Columbus Avenue, joining an already carb-heavy stretch that includes Modern Bread & Bagel, Billy’s Bakery and Orwashers nearby.
There’s no exact opening date yet beyond sometime in 2027. But if Radio’s Brooklyn locations are any indication, you may want to prepare yourself now for lines and sold-out signs.
