Staten Island Yankees are becoming the Staten Island Pizza Rats this summer

It's a big week for random, opportunistic rebranding. Just days after the International House of Pancakes proclaimed itself the International House of Burgers, the Staten Island Yankees, the Single A affiliates of the real Yankees, have announced they'll play this season's Saturday home games as the Staten Island Pizza Rats.

Remember that little fella?

Fans voted for the moniker as part of a poll way back in 2016, and, only two short years later, the team has made those fans' dreams a reality. See, your vote does matter. You can see the Pizza Rats in action on June 23, July 7, 14, 21 and August 4.

Despite the will of the voting public, the team probably made the right decision to limit the switch to a few special events. The Yankees are one of the world's most recognizable sports franchises; pizza rat is a barely remembered meme from three years ago. That said, you can grab a Pizza Rats hat and wear it any damn time you like.
