Pride month's main event is this long and lavish march down Fifth Ave, organized by the all-volunteer Heritage of Pride and filled with every sort of marching group and celebratory float you can imagine, including queer cops, LGBT airline pilots, Brazilian drag queens, bisexual activists, almost-naked go-go boys and an ever-growing array of corporate-sponsored floats (who just love that gay dollar!). This year's grand marshals are Judy Shepard (mother of the late Matthew), Dan Choi (anti–Don't Ask Don't Tell activist) and Constance McMillen (queer Mississippi teen who fought back). Bring your sunscreen, water, feather boa and camera and grab a spot along the route—shortened this year because of city budget cuts—starting at 36th St and Fifth Ave and going south till it cuts west across 9th Street and then Christopher Street.
