A.G. Kitchen

Cuban-born chef Alex Garcia puts a Latin spin on American plates at this 120-seat eatery, outfitted with a 100-year-old mahogany bar, butcher-block tables and colorful hanging pots. Dig into dishes like a Peruvian-style beer-can chicken served with roasted tomato salsa, and the Manhattan Latin Burger, a house-ground patty topped with guacamole, bacon, cheddar and a smoky-sweet sauce.

I want to start off by saying that it takes a lot for me to be disappointed with waitstaff at a restaurant, having worked in the industry myself I know how to spot the difference between a busboy and a server and recognize when a place is understaffed vs inattentive. In this case the staff was incredibly inattentive, having seated us directly in front of the doorway that lead to the main dining areas, there was no excuse for why we were passed over for 10min before we were finally greeted with water and told our server would be with us shortly, but then it was another 15-20min before the server made an appearance, after making eye contact with us several times and once saying she'd "be right there!"...and she finally got there, about 10min later. That aside, the food was very good. I had the Cod, he had the Sasso chicken - we were surprised by the portion of the chicken, which I think was entire 1/2 of the bird + several sides, so there was plenty left to take home afterwards (mental note to share it next time!). The food was really great and I would go back with an adjusted mindset prepared for the wait.
