Bring the address with you—Alta is hidden a few steps below street level on a sleepy block of West Village brownstones. Once inside, ask for sangria. The bartender will fill an oversize goblet with ice, orange juice, a hefty shot of spiced rum and a topper of red wine. The bar is gleaming copper, the stools are padded leather, and the walls are lined with rounded river rocks and weathered brick. Among the many tapas available are salty marcona almonds and an intriguing combo of cauliflower, clams and chorizo.
