Times Square is in a different mood on Monday nights, because there’s no theater rush. When the hordes stay home, one can better admire the cherry-wood floors, ceiling fans and floral prints of Azalea’s spacious dining room. And without a looming curtain time, diners are able to savor dishes like paper-thin tuna carpaccio dressed with olive oil, sea salt, hearts of palm and avocado; a Gorgonzola soufflé with pear; thin fettuccine with chicken, sun-dried tomato, mushroom, garlic and a touch of cream; or pappardelle in a rich sauce of braised wild boar. When the lights are dark on Broadway, it’s nice to know there’s still a spot that shines.
