If I had the option to give this establishment zero stars, I would.
On Sunday, July 13th, 2014 (around 6:15pm) myself, and two friends, decided to head to this Bare Burger location. Whenever I have friends in town, this is usually our go to spot for dinner. Unfortunately, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with my most recent visit to this location (23-01 31st Street Astoria, NY 11105), so much so, that I will not be going back there again.
When my friends and I arrived at the restaurant, the hostess (a young, thin, relatively tall woman, with long brown hair, wearing a long gray dress) asked us if we had a preference for sitting inside or outside. We told her that it did not matter, and that we'd rather just have the next available table, whether it was inside or out. She then told us that the next available table would be one outside, and that we needed to wait a few minutes, and then we'd be seated. Very shortly after a table was open and she ended up giving it to a large group of people.
After that, about ten to fifteen minutes passed, and we still had not been seated. During that time, we saw a few groups inside, finishing up their meal and figured we'd be next to be seated. A few minutes after that we saw two separate groups of three people enter the restaurant, and they were promptly seated at two available inside tables, without even having to wait. At that point, I went up to the hostess and told that it was extremely unacceptable that we had been waiting 10-20 minutes for a table, only to watch two other groups, who just walked in, be seated right away. After I complained she grabbed table settings and said she'd go set up a table for us outside.
By that time, my friends and I were extremely upset, to the point where we decided that we were going to leave and find a new restaurant. As soon as we started walking away, the hostess came out of the restaurant and started raising her voice and mouthing off to us. She was EXTREMELY rude and did not once apologize for inconveniencing us. She got in my face near the dining area and was raising her voice, to the point where most of the people dining outside, stopped to watch what was going on. She told me that it was not her fault, and that the busboy and manager were not helping her. In a calm voice, I told her to tell her manager that he/she had just lost a customer.
Directly after the incident, I called the manager on my phone (as we were driving to another restaurant) and was put on hold for 10 minutes. Finally, a woman, claiming to be the manager, answered the phone and offered her apologizes for the incident. She said that she would take down my complaint. I told her how upset I was and she asked me for my name, phone number, and address. She said she would be mailing me a gift certificate, and that she hoped to see me again at her restaurant in the near future. Over a week has gone by, and I never received a gift certificate of any sort.
Needless to say, I will never be stepping foot inside this Bare Burger restaurant ever again. I'm strongly considering boycotting Bare Burger entirely. I would also like to point out, that my friends and I are members of the LGBT community, and that I sincerely hope that, that was not part of the reason we were treated so horribly at this establishment.
