In warm weather, fans of Barolo know the score. They whiz past the dining room’s open antipasto counters and head straight for the picturesque tree-shaded back patio and outdoor bar, bordered by an overlooking terrace. A glass of wine is in order from the restaurant’s staggering list of more than1,200 selections (naturally focused on the Barolo region). From the largely Northern Italian menu, you can’t go wrong with classic pasta standards or desserts like the creamier-than-usual panna cotta, delicately accented with basil. While some might consider a $16 for a caprese salad a bit steep, others won’t mind shelling out for the rare dining experience: An outdoor garden in the middle of Soho’s concrete jungle is a little hard to come by.
