Basera Indian Bistro

The tandoor bakes everything from lobster to paratha at this Hell's Kitchen Indian eatery from chef-owner Anil Kumar (Indigo). Family owned-and-operated since 2008, the restaurant specializes in traditional fare from the northern part of India, ranging from appetizers like shrimp balchao—two jumbo shrimp bathed in coconut and mustard-seed sauce—, to entrees such as beef curry, tender lamb Jalfrezi and rich paneer sag. To cool the spice, seek out tropical, fruit-forward cocktails mixed with ingredients like fresh mango, guava puree and a house curry elixir.

Basera Indian Bistro serves great Northern Indian food located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner as well. There is a fantastic prix fixe dinner for just $19.95 per person which includes an appetizer, a main course, and a portion of freshly baked naan bread. The vegetable samosas and chicken pakora fritters are amazing appetizers. If you can take the heat, try the fiery shrimp vindaloo cooked with potatoes and hot spices. For vegetarians, the black lentil daal with beans, paired with some fluffy basmati rice, is a hearty and filling main course.
