Birdbath, Neighborhood Green Bakery (CLOSED)

The name of this minichain of eco-conscious bakeries isn't official yet, but these shops are serious about the cookies and other pastries from City Bakery on offer. The furniture and decorations are sustainably produced—as are the mostly organic baked goods. The third location, on Prince Street, occupies the former home of the beloved Vesuvio Bakery.

The east village spot may be closed, but the SoHo location is definitely open (160 Prince St, New York, NY 10012). Each day the windows are filled with stacks of fresh, oversized, chewy chocolate chip cookies that are absolutely delicious. Aside from cookies, there's a selection of baked goods, fresh salads, and sometimes even mac n cheese. A quick neighborhood stop that's worth a visit if you're in the area - only bummer is there's no seating!
