Part of the popular Los Pollitos family of restaurants, this slim, pink café offers four kinds of pressed sandwiches and seven types of tamales. Just seven tables (four of them outside) welcome those who wish to dine in. The lowly sandwich is reborn as the “hoggie” (not a typo); the memorable Aztec version is a pressed baguette filled with garlicky roasted pork. When God wanted better nachos, chilaquiles were created—and this place’s rendition is glorious, with melted cotija cheese and avocado-tomatillo sauce. Café con leche and horchata (a ground-rice drink) put the café in Café Mexicano; we also recommend the never-fail hot chocolate. At these prices, you’ll be tickled pink.
