An amicable staff dishes out gigantic portions of family-style specialties at this tourist hot spot that often gets actual busloads. Chicken comes slathered in savory marsala sauce, and eggplant parmigiana is thickly layered with tomato sauce and bubbling cheese. Enormous desserts (like the aptly named Titanic, a sundae atop a chocolate torte) verge on the obscene, and the odds are high that you will hear “Happy Birthday” sung more than once.

Solid family Italian place, I took my parents here when they were visiting. We were all impressed with the anitpasti, calamari and pasta! Friendly service and generous portions of delicious, fresh Italian dishes.

Stay clear of Carmine's!

BUT...if none of this applies to you..Carmine's is always worth the trip to the UWS. Everything about it is big: the food, the space, the food, the decibel level, the food...

But Carmine's is a perfect option for big family dinners/celebrations. Order one of everything, drink a bunch of wine, and polish it all off with a dessert the size of a Toyota Prius.

The 3 stars, however, is for the service. Wait staff is (in my experience)  eager but a tad incompetent. And the front staff is just downright rude. Let me enjoy my 17 pounds of pasta without the attitude, please.
