Pushing “Latin fare” with “Asian flair” (and a full sushi menu), Citrus brings East forcibly West in a Day-Glo conceptual whirl. White-clad sushi chefs slice and roll before a blazing, backlit sunset-orange screen. Bartenders in sleek black button-downs pour frosty margaritas and mojitos. A waitress serves a crowded table plates of spiced edamame, eel sushi rolls and sizzling quesadillas stuffed with cheese, corn and chili-lime shrimp, plus a molcajete of fresh guacamole. Flavors are vibrant and the presentation is glam; and judging by the joyful revelers, over-the-top creations like spicy tuna-banana rolls with jalapeño ponzu and avocado crema are perfect combinations. Just call it culinary cognitive dissonance, Upper West Side–style.
