Long a competitor of the neighboring Jackson Diner, this dependable, sunflower-hued curry emporium may have the edge these days, especially in terms of its less-nightmarish waits and friendlier staff. The fare remains feisty, with definitive vindaloos finessed to an uncommon riot of flavor (skewered chicken tikka is also a must-try). Samosas and other fried appetizers are less crispy than often experienced, allowing for more pungent pea notes, but a rose lassi yogurt drink is a bizarre concoction—like drinking perfume. Overall, though, this is some solid subcontinental.
