California transplants turn up regularly at this out-of-the-way Lower East Side joint and proclaim it to have the best South-of-the-Border eats in Gotham. Stark white-tiled walls, ten tables and a single sombrero tacked over the kitchen door function as decor: a mostly Mexican clientele packs the place for excellent moles, enchiladas and tortillas sopped in kick-ass, hangover-busting menudo (tripe stew), which is available on weekends only.
