Time Out says

The team behind Union Square pretty-people staple the Coffee Shop launches a Mexican spin-off next door, rigging the former four-car garage with a 25-foot mahogany bar, hanging surfboards and bright beachside posters. From an open kitchen, San Diego native Joel Oberlander (the Coffee Shop) sticks to his West Coast roots, serving tacos such as smoked pastrami with Thousand Island slaw and smoked brisket with pico de gallo, guacamole and salsa verde, alongside heftier burritos and flattened tortas. Drinks range from Mexican beers (Negro Modelo, Pacifico) to agave-based cocktails (paloma, margarita).

Amazing quick bite in Union Square. So many of the restaurants in the area are either totally overpriced (Rosa Mexicano, I'm looking at you) or a full experience (Grey Dog, I love you but whyyyyy) so when my boyfriend discovered this gem, I was so happy. The pastrami and duck are equally delicious, lately we have been splitting both. I've gotten the margs here before and they're good and strong - but sometimes can have a lot of mix. The bartender knows his tequila though! Love it here.

I came to check out Taco Shop last week with my husband (after he saw that Time Out mentioned them in the magazine), and it was a fantastic experience. The bartender/waiter was superb and was full of recommendations. We ordered two of the cocktails—both very tasty and mine was generously strong. As for the food, we feasted. We both ordered a trio of tacos (mine was fish, pastrami, and pork) that came with a side of beans/rice. We also got chips and guac and a side of corn. Wow, the food was delicious and filling. I am thrilled to know this place is near where I live as I will definitely be visiting again.
