We don’t have to tell you that NYC is a food lover’s paradise, but not every New Yorker is fortunate enough to reap the benefits of this delicious city. In fact, one out of every five New Yorkers is food insecure. This terrifying statistic is one of the reasons Food Bank for New York City (FBNYC) powers the campaign Go Orange to End Hunger™ (FYI: orange is the color of hunger awareness!), which aims to raise awareness of the devastating issue of hunger that impacts 1.5 million citizens in Gotham. Donations are of course amazing ($1 helps provide 5 meals), but it takes a lot more than money—800 volunteers per week, to be exact—for Food Bank to feed New Yorkers in need.

And, Barilla—the creator and purveyor of your favorite pasta meals, and FBNYC’s presenting partner for Go Orange to End Hunger™—is giving New Yorkers an important opportunity to help their neighbors in need who are struggling to put food on the table.

And just how, you ask?

September 6 to 9: Barilla will Share The Table™ with more than 1,500 New Yorkers who typically rely on soup kitchens and food pantries by delivering hot pasta lunches to food-insecure areas in need across the city.

September 12 to 16: Barilla will rally New Yorkers across all five boroughs to #GoOrangeWithBarilla. That week, Barilla will drop by a new borough each day, giving away free pasta swag bags (all 20,000 of ’em!), and recruit some eager New Yorkers to donate, advocate and volunteer for FBNYC.

In addition to donating 500,000 meals to FBNYC, Barilla will contribute another pasta serving for each New Yorker who donates, advocates or signs up to volunteer on the spot—up to one ton of pasta (that’s more than enough pasta goodness to stack 618 times the height of the Empire State Building!). Plus, you can make your mark by snapping and sharing a photo at the mobile selfie stations or using the Snapchat filter on-site.

And for warmhearted but exceptionally busy New Yorkers, there’s an even easier way to make a difference: What if you could impact someone’s life in 140 characters on Twitter or by posting a photo on Instagram? Piece of cake, right? For every New Yorker who uses the hashtag #GoOrangeWithBarilla on social media, Barilla will bestow an extra pasta meal. So take photos, use the hashtag, and volunteer! Together, New York can reach its full potential by making sure that everyone can Share The Table™.
