Brooklyn impresario Ted Mann—owner of nine venues, including Matchless and Cubana Social—turns his attentions to old New York with this Bay Ridge restaurant. The throwback canteen recalls a bygone era with black-and-white checkered floors, vintage subway tiles and a menu offering blue-plate specials (Monday night meat loaf) and homey dishes, such as hot dogs, knishes, a pastrami sandwich and cobb salad. Four taps at the pewter-topped bar dispense draft beers (Radeberger, Captain Lawrence), and you can also order classic cocktails.
