A Korean joint based only a short stroll from Lexington Avenue, Handsome Rice was founded by celebrated chef Hansong Kim. Kim has made several TV appearances, boasts Korean and American culinary awards, and received honours for his cookbook.

At Handsome Rise, the restaurant's menu is inspired by dosirak (Korean-style lunchbox, similar to Japanese bento), so you can expect to nibble on leafy, seasonal salads with small batch sauces, a wide array of vegetables, grilled meats and marinated dishes. Handsome Rice also has various off-site catering options, including weddings, office parties and family gatherings.

Founded by Hansong Kim, a talented and experienced Korean chef, Handsome Rice is serving tasty Korean food with modern touches. It serves freshly cut salad with house-made small batch sauces, marinated meat and grill to order proteins, and side dishes made with fresh ingredients, all at reasonable prices in a beautiful space nestled in Murray hill.

Dosirak (also spelled "doshirak") refers to the Korean-style lunchbox, usually made at home. Similar to Japanese bento or Indian tiffin, they are usually made with a variety of vegetables and meat paired with kimchi and rice.

The chef is experienced in menu development and franchising industry for years, and now opened his own brand focusing on creating healthy and tasty Korean dishes to the neighborhood.

He holds a Master degree at Johnson & Wales University Providence, RI and received CEC (Certified Executive Chef)and ACE(Approved Certified Evaluator) from American Culinary Federation, and has an extensive experience in working at major hotels as well as private dining. Before he came to the United States, he had won a number of culinary competitions from Korea and appeared a couple of TV programs as a chef.

He also has written several cookbooks, and one of his books received 'Best Celebrity Chef Book from Korea in 2012' from Paris Cook Book Competition.
