Hinsch’s is an almost perfectly preserved piece of old Brooklyn, right down to the candy-filled windows shaded by a retractable green-canvas awning. This soda fountain–luncheonette still makes its own ice cream and chocolates. In addition to old-time fountain favorites, there’s some serious griddle action: Denver omelettes, burgers and carved-to-order sandwiches. Although the pancakes stop flapping at 11am, the waffle iron never grows cold. And the shelves are well stocked with freshly made, giant chocolate Santas and Easter bunnies.
