Crustacean lovers will have a hard time locating a better, cheaper sopa de jaiba (crab soup (sopa de jaiba). A couple of beasties are quartered and dunked into a bowl of coconut-milk broth, and you pay only $8 for the thrill of extricating the meat from the shell and claws with your bare hands. You can warm up for your meal with baleadas ($3 for two), thick pancakelike tortillas folded over refried black beans, crumbled cheese and a dollop of creamcremea. They’re not on the menu, but the staff will be happy to make them for you.
