Despite occupying a prime corner in Little Italy, Il Palazzo fails to stand out on a street filled to bursting with old-school Italian-American trattorias. A bland, ‘80s-style décor and a misguided faith in heavy sauces assures glopping through enormous portions of gravy-laden entrees without the checkered-tablecloth charm of neighborhood eateries. Ask to be seated in the glass-enclosed garden and avoid the more experimental dishes in favor of the classics—mozzarella caprese, veal marsala or one of several fresh pastas. You’ll be satisfied, if not wowed.
