Danny Meyer’s food empire has already conquered the fast-casual burger market with its ubiquitous Shake Shack domination. Now it tries its hand at another Gotham favorite: pizza. The Union Square Hospitality Group chef Nick Anderer (Maialino, Marta) mans the kitchen of this new za-focused spot. Influenced by the street pizzerias in Rome, the casual restaurant will churn out affordable pies, like the simple Margherita, or more top-heavy options like capricciosa (artichokes, ham, mushrooms, black olives, mozzarella, sunny-side-up egg) and ortolana (kale, black olives, mozzarella, pecorino romano). The 48-seat interior mimics the Eternal City with rustic terra-cotta accents, worn tile wainscoting and open-hearth ovens.
