Pork-and-beef–mad celebrants braved tetchy weather to head to Randall’s Island for Meatopia on September 8, 2012. The cookout, from the mind of grease-loving epicure and TIME magazine writer Josh Ozersky, featured the red-blooded stylings of more than 45 high-profile chefs, who roasted, grilled and smoked meat of all varieties. Tasting stations served up unlimited portions of dishes such as grilled veal brisket with charred garlic scapes from Noah Bernamoff (Mile End), whole Hampshire hog from April Bloomfield (the Breslin) and grilled pork cheeks with summer vegetable mostarda from Michael White (Marea), while unlimited beer from Amstel Light kept the crowd motivated to return for second helpings.
