Born and raised in the South Bronx, the vibrant pop of colour and flavour that is Mexicocina now has a second branch in Brooklyn. For an authentic taste of Mexico with a side of cocktails, you can't beat a trip to this place.
Beeline for Washington Avenue (by Prospect) to fill up on tacos overflowing with grilled shrimp, burritos packed with rice, beans and steak, and nopal (cactus) salad. If you're lucky enough to visit on a day they're offering tlayudas, be sure to snap it up. In case you're unfamiliar with this doughy dish, it's basically a Mexican pizza. Need we say more?
The obvious choice to wash it all down with is a jug of snagria, but if you're feeling adventurous, plump for a mango margarita. Or sample the Mexican Old Fashioned – made with mezcal and chili syrup.
