Some people think Mishima dishes the best sushi in town—it’s certainly the best in Murray Hill. This seemingly pedestrian spot, with its basic blond-wood decor and simple sushi bar, offers more than the same old, same roll: The spider roll’s soft-shell crab is swathed in spicy jalapeño-infused roe, a rarity in NYC sushi dens. Tangy aji (a form of mackerel) is flown in daily from Japan and coupled with scallions and a fiery mustard. Not every sushi staple is gussied up: Sweet shrimp is rightly fresh and simple, and the toro (fatty tuna), though understated, is a buttery, well-marbled delight.
