This Japanese spot could sail by on looks alone—it’s an airy space with pinewood-paneled walls—and the food’s not bad either. Impeccably fresh fish, like silky toro, practically melts on the tongue. Standard shumai is gussied up with strawlike noodles that wrap around each dumpling like rubber bands. The specialty rolls are, well, special: Spicy tuna is topped with flamed yellowtail and almonds; another roll marries jalapeño, salmon, tuna, cucumber and scallop tartare.

Incredible food but there's often a line so either get there early or later on but avoid peak times between 7.30 and 9.30.
I should start by clarifying I'm reviewing the UWS location, but looking at the review below, it seems our sentiments are similar! If you're after VERY GOOD Japanese food, look no further. The pork buns are delicious, well worth trying. The Katsu was pretty interesting, the egg sauce is worth a try... not saucy as i expected, but still very tasty.
Amazing sushi place. Also, best price for a good and quality lunch during the week at just $16 for sushi set. It does get busy so come early when they open.
