P.D. O'Hurley's at Pier 84

You'll find well-executed pub fare at this far-west eatery, but your little ship lovers won't care. They're here for the aquatic eye-candy: the USS Intrepid is docked at Pier 86, and the Circle Line ships are based at Pier 83 across the street. You, meanwhile, get to enjoy lunch under a parasol and occasionally spoon mouthfuls of chicken pot pie or bangers and mash into your kids' open mouths.

Ended up here on July 4th after a long walk and a kayaking adventure, which really worked up an appetite, so I started the search for an American classic: a hotdog. I had just about had it with the sun so in lieu of a street cart (which offers no shade or seating) I decided to try P.D. O'Hurley's. The atmosphere is cute, with outside seating set in front of a little water/fountain area, and the restaurant itself right next to the Intrepid. It was a decent hotdog on a slightly dry bun and was accompanied by some insignificant fries, but slathered in ketchup it managed to hit the spot on this particular American holiday. I wouldn't consider it a destination by any means, but it was definitely a welcome relief from the heat.
