Hawaii’s favorite raw fish dish has taken the five boroughs by storm—a fact that’s evident in the many poke shops popping up all over the city. PokeRice in the West Village offers all of the traditional combinations and a few new ones. First timers might want to start out with the Hawaiian Classic with bigeye tuna, onion, edamame, cucumber, kale, scallions, garlic chips and nori ($11.95). More adventurous eaters might try the Salmon Toro with edamame, sliced radish, onions, scallions, shiitake mushrooms, seaweed salad, masago, wasabi, lotus chips and truffled citrus-yuzu sauce ($15). You can even order a sushi donut filled with spicy tuna and topped with more tuna, salmon, sliced avocado and radish ($9). PokeRice also offers the option to design your own bowl (two proteins for $10.95, three proteins for $12.95).
