Any place that considers ketchup a marinara sauce isn’t striving for haute cuisine. Thank goodness. The appeal of PressToast is simple, cheap, satisfying grub. The year-old Israeli sandwich shop, opened by Westville owner Yaniv Cohen and partner Miron Broshi, serves deliciously saucy, hot-pressed sandwiches. You can create your own variation or try one of the preordained selections, each of which starts with a fresh-baked baguette (from an Israeli bakery in Brooklyn) or a flaky malawah wrap, followed by fillings either savory (avocado, swiss and za’atar), semisweet (feta, banana and butter) or dessert (smothered with Nutella). If you’re craving a slice but want a healthful alternative, the pizza toast (swiss, olives, mushrooms and ketchup) sounds odd but strangely tastes like the real thing.
