This former hot spot was set back by the departure of chef Sue Torres, but Jan Mendelson has it moving forward again. Decked out in bright colors and corn-husk light fixtures, the place is still good for ogling beautiful boys doing the Eighth Avenue strut. Thanks to Mendelson, the food grabs your attention as well. Tamales are topped with shrimp and chipotle butter, and tasty corn tortillas are layered with grilled chicken, Chihuahua cheese and salsa verde. The bar also holds a distinguished reputation for its tongue-numbingly stiff frozen margaritas. Choose from fresh-fruit varieties like papaya, mango and passion fruit, or consider a Mexican bottled beer.
