Royale

Leave your burger pretensions at the door of this low-key bar and restaurant. With retro simplicity, the kitchen focuses almost exclusively on hamburgers and cheeseburgers (American cheese only). The charbroiled Angus beef burgers are served in baskets on sesame-seed buns with the standard burger fixings—lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. Chicken, BLT and grilled-cheese sandwiches are also available. Skip the forgettable fries and opt instead for a $3 can of beer from Butternuts brewery.

I was very excited to come here because I am a huge fan on burgers; however, I will say this was not as good as I initially expected. I will give this place 5 stars though because the ambiance was great. Not super crowded, very chill and laid back. They have pint size cocktails for $12 (which are actually pretty strong), the garden was so nice. Very shaded, quiet (that's what you get for being on ave c) and spacious. Our waiter was kind and super attentivie in a non annoying way.

Great spot for big groups and/or casual summer cocktails

Residing in the East Village I am fortunate enough to have my choice of just about anything. Luckily for me I can add Royale to my list. Situated at 157 Avenue C (between 9th and 10th), this little place serves up BIG amounts of pure awesomeness. Introducing the Double Royale, two beef patties on a fresh bun decked out with red onions, lettuce, tomato and melted American cheese. Just thinking about it makes we want to get up from my desk in Midtown and head on over for my fix. Nothing fancy here, just straight up juicy home-made patties that leave you satisfied. If you feeling extra hungry you can order fries as a side (try the truffle fries) but a word to the newbies - one basket of fries easily feeds two people. Definitely drop by if you ever in the area and if not, just go anyways!
