San Carlo Osteria Piemonte in Soho isn’t your typical pasta joint. This restaurant focuses on cuisine from the Piedmont region of northern Italy, which leans more towards rustic home cooking. The menu reveals an emphasis on game you don’t often see in Italian restaurants. You can order an appetizer of tonno di coniglio, rabbit marinated in olive oil served with pickled vegetables ($17), or pan-seared guineafowl with leeks, potatoes and kale sauce ($27) for your entree. Other menu options include chestnut gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and parmesan fondue ($22), bone-in veal milanese with arugula and cherry tomatoes ($42) and bollito misto piedmontese, a stew of brisket, ribs, beef tongue and pork sausage with vegetable relish ($29). The dessert menu offers more than just the usual suspects as well. You’ll find pears cooked in red wine, honey and star anise ($15) and a mint semifreddo with chocolate sauce ($13) alongside tiramisu and hazelnut mousse (both $12).

Seriously authentic Northern Italian spot. Great food and awesome owners that are the real deal. You do not realize the authenticity of Italian cuisine until you have been to a place like this. Edgy modern real Italian vibe make it a must. My favorite new restaurant in NYC
San Carlo has a buzzing atmosphere with amazing food, and the most friendly and authentic staff of anywhere in New York. The crowd is younger, this is one of our favorite local soho restaurants! Great for dates as well.
San Carlo is the epitome of Italian excellence! Being Italian, I know the difference between American Italian food, and authentic Italian Dishes. Dining at San Carlo transports your tastebuds to Italy's finest in both taste and smell. Not to mention, all the staff speak both Italian and English and are very friendly! This is one spot you won't want to miss!

I've organized my birthday party at San Carlo!
It was terrific! The food was fantastic and the wine excellent! I had the vitello tonnato ( the best I've ever had), homemade pasta with pesto sauce ( simple, good and authentic) and branzino ( just wow!) .
Service was great and professional.
When I pick San Carlo, I was confident about the food because I had already tested it before.
We were 30 people, so my concern was about the sitting, because I wanted everybody to be able to talk to each other easily.
Davide, one of the owners, helped me a lot, giving me many options for all my requests.

I have organized my birthday party at San Carlo! It was great! The food was amazing. I had the vitello tonnato ( the best vitello tonnato i ever had) the fresh pasta with pesto ( handmade and delicious) and the branzino ( just wow!!) the service was so helpful and professional and Davide help me a lot planning my birthday there. We were in 30 peolpe, and my worries were about the seats/tables disposition
and if i could talk with all of my guests.. the manager help me a lot and set the tables up In a perfect way!
We had a great time!! And everyone could talk between each others!
Also, everybody loved the food and the wine! Seeying my guests happy made my happiness too:)

On San Carlo's winter menu, there are so many favorites. I live close by & frequent this restaurant. Here are my top picks:
-Pan seared scallops - love biting into these scallops, perfect texture every time
-Grilled calamari - best calamari I've ever had. Seems like its simply prepared but the flavors are exquisite.
-Homemade plin (ravioli) filled with braised meat in broth. My favorite dish on the menu. The first time I had this was in Italy, cooked by my boyfriend's aunt, I fell in love with it and I'm so happy San Carlo has it on their menu. Truly lived up his Italian aunt's dish! Perfect for a chilly night.
-Guinea fowl breast & mushroom terrine - first time trying guinea fowl, so good! Juicy & tender. The terrine was fantastic.
-Deep fried seasonal vegetables w/ Piedmontese sauces. This dish is everything. I love anchovies, garlic, and anything fried :p I was hesitant to try it but I am so glad I did. Veggies were lightly fried, anchovy sauce, mouth-watering.
I look forward to trying many more dishes and I am excited to see what they have up their sleeves for Spring.
