Restaurateurs Gianfranco and Paula Sorrentino (Il Gattopardo) have transformed the former Cafe des Artistes space into a luxe trattoria. The romantic 95-seat space, outfitted with terrazo floors and walnut-wood columns, showcases the former tenant's historic pastel murals, now restored to their original colors. Chef Vito Gnazzo executes a Southern Italian menu that includes dishes such as eggplant and smoked buffalo mozzarella timbale, lamb loin with a red-wine–tarragon sauce, and bucatini with sardines, wild fennel and raisins. An adjacent parlor, the Leopard Aperitivo, offers vino and bar snacks in an intimate, library-like setting.

Amazing southern Italian cuisine (among the best in the city), exceptional service, and an iconic, gorgeous dining room (with murals by artist Howard Chandler Christy) that makes it among the best restaurants for a date in New York City. Warm and welcoming staff, great food, and a stunning room!

Fantastic ambiance, the murals are interesting and detailed and transport you to a different place and time, with vivid imagery making the space feel more intimate. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, though at times can leave you a bit wanting, and the food is traditional Italian providing rustic comfort. Expensive, but overall an enjoyable experience.
