Time Out says

This homey West Village deli has been crafting sandwiches since 1984. The decor hasn't changed much (it's distinguished by light-yellow walls and a stainless-steel sandwich counter), and neither has the house specialty—freshly roasted and smoked turkey served with herb mayo on a crusty baguette.

I was experiencing that dreaded feeling of city explorers everywhere: I had been walking for hours, I needed to eat soon, before I devolved into a cranky mess, I was getting so tired and hungry that I was approaching making poor decisions, and that lovely, age-old idea of walking around and just choosing a dinner spot that would turn out to be amazing was just not happening. I also didn't want to spend a ton of money, and I was in the West Village (yikes). And then, across the street, I spotted the Original Sandwich Shoppe, a-glow in its halo. I walked in to find a simple sandwich menu with reasonable prices, plain tables I wouldn't mind lingering at, and two jolly owners, maybe husband and wife?, having fun bickering together. I ordered a sandwich and sat down and enjoyed the atmosphere. The cashier seemed to be a little slow and somehow created a line of people even though there were only two other couples besides me, but otherwise, it was just what I wanted.

Finding a go-to sandwich shop in NYC is crucial, and I finally found mine. The Original Sandwich Shoppe is such a great breakfast and lunch option for those in the West Village, ranging from egg sandwiches to steak sandwiches to Italian subs. All of the food is incredibly fresh and the people who work there are great. For a huge, delicious sandwich, a good bag of chips, and a drink, you only pay about $12 - $15 - which is a great value in NYC, especially in the West Village!
