Acclaimed Australian Executive Chef Chris Rendell is heading back to the beach, creating a menu following his much loved Aussie Cooking Philosophy. The Restaurant at The Surf Lodge will be offering a simple, clean, fresh, local and organic market driven menu with a focus on daily caught seafood.

The restaurant was inspired by the culture and lifestyle of Byron Bay, one of Australia’s most authentic surf towns.

My review here is mainly for the vibe - the Surf Lodge is a tricky place to explain.


Is it overpriced? ABSOLUTELY

Is the food worth it? No way, it is not

What about the drinks? Drinks are amazing


So, why the hell come here? Honestly, the vibe is unbelievable. In order to do it right, you must take a few steps:

1 - Weekends here are packed. If you try to simply show up after 5pm, you will NOT get in. You might also be treated rudely AF. Save yourself the hassle and make a reservation for a late lunch a month in advance - you will walk right in no problem


2 - Once you've had lunch, grab a spot in the sand, bring your bathing suit and relax in the sun with a few drinks. Little by little the place will start to fill up


3 - As it gets darker, the live acts will start. The views are amazing and no matter what you are guaranteed to hear great music. IT feels like a festival at the beach, every single time. The people are beautiful and not stuck up at all.


Give it a chance - as long as you know what you are getting into and do it the right way, you are guaranteed a great time!!
