Most New Yorkers don’t have families big enough to handle the family-style portions at Tony’s (the Times Square location does offer individual servings). The chicken Marsala is just tangy enough and smothered in tastier-than-usual mushrooms. The spaghetti bolognese is unmistakably inspired by someone’s Italian grandmother. And you might be inspired to have some bambini to justify ordering more of Tony’s food.

My review is specific to the Times Square location (it's not exactly clear in Time Out which is which!) I'd been looking forward to our meal at Tony's for ages, as it looked fun and friendly. I wasn't disappointed. They were good enough to seat us even though we got lost and arrived very late. We sat in the downstairs which had a fun themed fresco on the wall. I was worried by the strong smell of fish as we descended, but luckily this passed very quickly! Our waitress was approachable and entertaining, and explained that the main courses came in sharing portions, so for Brits with fairly modest appetites it was important to choose one dish that suited both tastes. We went for the Napoli ravioli, filled with spinach and ricotta and bathed in tomato sauce and Parmesan. It arrived quickly, still steaming, and was set between us on the table - an indulgent feast! It was scrumptious, and we devoured it. The free bread made an excellent receptacle for the last of the sauce. It was satisfying, but we had room for dessert. Here, our hostess said that they were less of a sharing size - but we didn't believe her! We were glad we didn't order two, as the attached photo of a tiramisu shows that it's about three times the size of anything in an English restaurant - we were more than full by the end, but battled valiantly on. It was apparent from the takeaway bags on almost every other table that it's a popular option for New Yorkers who want some food to take home. The cocktails were delicious too, but not as worthy of explanation as the food. In all, the bill was $80 for two people - two courses, a cocktail each, plus tax and service. It was our most expensive meal in NYC, but for the food, ambiance and service it was definitely worth it!


This place is a bit cheesy and a total tourist spot but good nonetheless! 

I came here a few weeks ago with my family on a week night and it was packed! (I definitely recommend making reservations.)

Huge, family style portions. We got the Caesar salad, stuffed chicken with Marsala and a pasta with tomato and eggplant sauce - everything was good! 

The staff is pleasant and the place seems to be running like a well oiled machine.

Mangia! Tony's family-style Italian at its finest. Enjoy the classy but cozy atmosphere drenched in art while sampling crusty sesame-seeded bread to die for. Order the delicious rigatoni a la vodka with mushrooms or chicken parm. On a work day, grab a spot at the bar & meet a friend for a quick meal or they will deliver! Plan a special family dinner in Times Square at this gem on an evening for any occasion. Always busy. Always in demand. Everything on the menu is magnifico.


Walking into this restaurant is like coming home for the first time in four years - Its home! This place is always busy, however, the service is second to none. The smell of freshly cooked bread from the table next to you, will blow your mind! Order it, It's Devine! The beauty of Tony's is that it's family style, an Italian tradition! Order together, and share the experience. The servers will offer you recommendations and be sure to ask for the specials menu!! With so much to Choose from, you won't be disappointed! Once you're done with the main, there's the dessert menu, and wow! You will not be disappointed!

TIP: Book a table in advance (several locations) I recommend the bread and oils as well as Zucchini Fritti (starter) and the chicken Parmigian - bellisimo!
