Banh mi fans can diversify at this closet-size sandwich shop: Choices like crispy sunfish with pickled onions are available, along with the classic pork-and-pâté version. Other traditional dishes include pho, vermicelli bowls and clay-pot catfish.

One of the low key spots around the East Village area that literally is a hole in the wall. This inexpensive joint features cheaply priced food items with their famous beef pho. I also recommend getting their Vietnamese Iced Coffee to help fuel your night out if you start here, super delicious and sweet. Cash only but $20 will take you very far!
