European Wax Center

Health and beauty, Spas Astoria

Time Out says

European Wax Center started as a small department within a family-owned salon and has since grown to include 192 locations throughout the country, each of which boasts the same clean, spalike interiors punctuated by exposed brick and bright red doors. Depilation is the name of the game here, and some of our favorite services for ladies include eyebrow ($16), Brazilian ($42) and lip ($9) waxes. Guys, meanwhile, can focus on their sideburns ($13), full back ($52) and chest ($24). No matter which zone you target, your wax will follow the same four-step process: A staffer cleans the area before applying a swab of oil to protect the dermis and help reduce redness; then the proprietary deep-purple stripless wax, which is made in France from 100 percent beeswax, is administered. After every hair has been near-painlessly removed, a soothing lotion is rubbed on to leave skin smooth. To help you maintain your results, display shelves in the lobby carry body lotions that slow hair growth ($20), ingrown-hair serums that prevent bumps and breakouts ($25), and postwaxing exfoliates ($38) that ensure new hair grows in problem-free.
