Alya Kazakevich creates hand-dyed and stitched bags, shoes and belts at her custom leather shop in Chinatown. The space (a combined workspace and shop) has a rustic, country feel, with potted plants and products displayed on a distressed-wooden bench, old sewing tables and stools. The items are made for those “looking for a more personal, practical and long-term piece,” says Kazakevich, “those who can appreciate the quality.” You’ll find lace-up dark-brown leather shoes (all shoes are $425); distressed leather bags with various hardware details, flaps, straps and handles (ranging from $275 to $475); and leather belts of all styles, including skinny, wide, doubled and braided ($95–$145).
