Book Culture
This community bookstore goes above and beyond to make itself a destination for reading and playing alike. In addition to its inviting children's room, packed with puzzles, art supplies and toys, the UWS store attracts mini literati in droves with its weekend storytelling sessions, often featuring guest appearances by kid-lit authors. Its other branch, on 112th Street, carries a small selection of children's books too, but isn't a kid mecca like this one is.

With the bigger bookstores vanishing, it's time to get back to independent. Clean, great selection, fantastic children's room. The best.

I LOVE Book Culture. For me, they started with the somewhat negative introduction as being the slightly overpriced textbook store for most of us on campus. However, this location (as well as the one slightly farther downtown at 81st and Columbus) has transitioned to being solely focused on leisure reading fare (the textbook location is the one a few blocks north, closer to campus). The store clerks are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Despite the store's tiny size, they have an impressive stock of options - I just recently found a book I'd been struggling for some time to locate and was overjoyed at the find. Also, great cards, stationery, and gift ideas to be found!
