Fairway Market
Fairway

Food shoppers flock from all over town to stock up at this beloved local supermarket chain. The five NYC locations—Harlem, UWS, UES, Red Hook and Douglaston—offer the type of everyman prices you won't find at Whole Foods, but the quality is still top-notch. You'll find all the basics, plus excellent speciality departments with international cheeses, imported foods, kosher items and more. A walk-in cold room (jackets provided!) at the Harlem market is packed with meats and a decent beer selection, and there is a popular café and steakhouse on the second floor of the UWS store.

We are so lucky to have several Fairway locations around the city, as it truly is like no other market. If you can’t find it at Fairway, then it probably doesn’t exist. The Upper East Side location is very popular with the locals and is usually very busy. There are two floors of amazing products like fruits, vegetables, cheese, meat, baked goods, and so much more. If you love olives, there is a huge selection with samples. Fairway has lots of its own products as well. You can find delicious soup, ready meals, and a hot and cold buffet. The staff is super friendly and helpful.

Fairway is probably the best place to buy groceries on the UES that won't break the bank. While some items may be a little pricier, you're at least paying for good quality food. This location is a bit small, while other locations are much bigger. Try to avoid going on weekends as it can get incredibly crowded and backed up very easily.
