After conquering Soho and three major squares (Times, Union and Herald), this trendy mass-market chain set its sights on Fifth Avenue—specifically, the former home of elegant Japanese department store Takashimaya—for its latest massive location. The six-floor space gives a nod to its posh surroundings by keeping the marble floors and original moldings of the building’s previous resident, but its merchandise features the same constantly rotating, crazy-affordable threads Forever 21 is known for. On one floor you’ll find classic pieces like cable-knit hooded shawls ($17) and mock-collared denim jackets ($29) from the brand’s Heritage 1981 collection. On another, nab sophisticated pieces from the feminine Love 21 line, like wool-blend pencil skirts ($20) and slouchy denim trousers ($28). While ladies load up on contemporary basics, such as raglan tops ($10) and faux-leather biker jackets ($33), men have the entire sixth floor to themselves, featuring straight-leg jeans ($35), wool fedoras ($14) and corduroy blazers ($40). And don’t forget the accessories: Metal bangles ($6), textured tights ($7) and faux-leather shoulder bags ($13–$45) abound.
