Owner Amy Schiappa really likes art: Her beauty parlor has an art gallery, which features the work of local artists on a revolving basis, and the shop’s website thanks customers for “letting us put art on your heads.” Cuts start at $75 ($65 for men) and the stylists’ areas of expertise ranges from the unexpected and bizarre to the subdued and traditional. For returning customers, bang trims between regular visits are complimentary, and they’re just $20 for first-time clients.

I've been to a lot of salons in 6+ years of living here and this is now my go-to. The prices are actually lower than most other places and the quality is excellent - they really care about what they do and it shows. Most importantly they REALLY listen to what you want and don't make assumptions (they'll give their creative input without pressuring you). I once noticed something I wasn't 100% happy with as I was finishing an appointment (color had come out a little lighter than I wanted) and my stylist fixed it right then and there and even gave me a second awesome blowout (after I had just made her ruin the previous one) without a hint of attitude. P.S. They now have a location in Gowanus too.
